Seems to be about 11 years ago. Here is a bit of a poem I wrote then, “Hatched” from my book RAG TRADE.
Suddenly because it rains
Ten thousand moth eggs hatch at our house
Moths shade the porch light
Like a living Japanese paper lantern
Golden stars on the blue enamel sky
At the Masonic Temple unfold their wings
One thing I know
Watching my twelve year old daughter
Stare moodily at the paste-on stars
On the ceiling of her room
Nothing will ever
Go back in its cocoon.
