Haiku by Ana Drobot

a flock of crows
covering the winter sky –
I hang on to sleep

open wings
against the red dusk –
beauty mark

morning dew –
my cat’s eyes
asking to come in

news of war –
the brick houses in London
more red in the sun

cracks in my watercolours –
breaking through
a dream

Ana Drobot was born in 1983 in Bucharest, Romania, and graduated from the University of Bucharest in 2006. She was awarded a PhD from the University of Bucharest in 2014 with a thesis titled ‘Virginia Woolf and Graham Swift: The Lyrical Novel’. Her haiku poems have been published in Haiku Journal (issues 31, 32, 33, 34 – 2014), in the online journal Brass Bell (November 2014 theme tea haiku and December 2014 winter haiku). She has had haiku published in Asahi Haikuist Network online journal, and Mainichi Haiku. Also, her haiga was accepted for the 125th WHA Haiga Contest (11/2014) and 126th WHA Haiga Contest and published online by Kuniharu Shimizu. She has also had a haiga published by Daily Haiga Online Journal.
