The Return
I no longer live
in a monastery
in the clouds
nor am I any longer
the mother
of a small child
the Southern Rockies
seem pre-disposed
to embrace me
I sit on the swinging chair
just out of reach
of my own
cup of coffee

Thank you!
Hi Miriam, I appreciate the heartfelt directness in this poem. As an empty-nester, I can relate to the stanza about no longer being the parent of a small child. And I love how you end with the stanza about being just out of reach of that cup of coffee. I have many times, as I sit on my back porch, been just out of reach of that cup of tea. And this seems to capture the feeling you are conveying. Lovely poem.
So glad you enjoyed it–thanks for reading.
